Dark Shadows is a 2012 dark fantasy film based on the gothic television soap opera of the same name. Directed by Tim Burton, the film stars Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Chloƫ Grace Moretz, and Bella Heathcote in a dual role.[3] Christopher Lee has a small role in the film, his 200th film appearance and his fifth and final appearance in a Burton film. Jonathan Frid, star of the original Dark Shadows series, makes a cameo, which was his final screen appearance, as he died shortly before the release of the film. One of the film's producers, Richard D. Zanuck, died two months after its release.
Dark Shadows: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack was released on May 8, 2012, as a download[25] and on various dates as a CD, such as on May 22 as an import in the United States[26] and on May 25 in Australia.[27] It features 11 songs, among them two score pieces by Danny Elfman and a recitation by Depp as Barnabas of several lines from \"The Joker\" by Steve Miller Band. Songs not featured on the soundtrack that are in the film include \"Superfly\" by Curtis Mayfield, \"Crocodile Rock\" by Elton John and \"Paranoid\" by Black Sabbath.
Richard Corliss of Time pointed out that \"[Burton]'s affection is evident, and his homage sometimes acute,\" and reasoned: \"All right, so Burton has made less a revival of the old show than a hit-or-miss parody pageant,\" but praised the star power of the film, relenting that \"attention must be paid to movie allure, in a star like Depp and his current harem. Angelique may be the only demonic among the women here, but they're all bewitching.\"[41] Peter Bradshaw, in the British newspaper The Guardian, weighed the film in a mixed write-up, giving it three stars out of five, and pointing out his feeling that \"the Gothy, jokey 'darkness' of Burton's style is now beginning to look very familiar; he has built his brand to perfection in the film marketplace, and it is smarter and more distinctive than a lot of what is on offer at the multiplex, but there are no surprises. There are shadows, but they conceal nothing.\"[35]
Joshua and Naomi Collins, and son Barnabas, start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas has the world at his feet, and as the master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy, until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique. Angelique turns him into a vampire, and then buries him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and awakes to 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin....This has to be the most Tim Burton Tim Burton movie since Mars Attacks! and I can see why many found this not what they expected, it's very left field, and at times does no know what genre it wants to be in.Depp as always is utterly fantastic as Barnabas, a gentleman and a ruthless killer all at once. And the rest of the cast are all great with the exception of Pfeiffer. She really has nothing to do in the movie and really her role could have been cut and the film wouldn't have suffered. It's not her fault, but all the other key characters have some sort of subplot going on in the film. It's funny at times, very funny, and then it can be dark and truly chilling (the scene with the hippies is one of these key elements), which is probably why it will struggle to find a demographic. But it's really good, and never really let's up until the final act, when it goes literally over the top. The sets are sublime and as you would expect from the man who gave us 'Beetlejuice' (which this film is most like) its very kooky and psychedelic. It's a love it or hate it film, and I really understand why, luckily I loved it
Francis Ford Coppola'sThe Godfather is a film that is known for its dark lighting, often only lighting half of a character's face, a critical component in chiaroscuro. Watch the video below to see how legendary cinematographer Gordon Willis lit the famous franchise.
The wide tone area captured by S-Log makes it especially effective when shooting subjects which tend to experience loss of details in shadows or overblown highlights. Scenes which were impossible to shoot before, such as those with strong sunlight and dark shadows can be captured in far more detail. 153554b96e
